SYDNEY BURROWS

PERSONAL STATEMENT
To my core, I am a storyteller. As a child, I filled up numerous notebooks with stories, poems, and even full “novels.” I begged my mother to enroll me in dance class once my living room no longer fulfilled my need for space to move. After writing about girls with “magic fingers” and taking as many dance classes as my schedule would allow, I naturally veered toward English and dance in my academic endeavors. My creativity began at a young age, and now shines through in my fiction writing, poetry, and dancing.
In first grade, I asked my teachers to fill my notebooks with crinkled yellow sticky-notes, offering suggestions and corrections to improve my stories. My dance teachers were strict, but instead of being upset by their yelling, I took each correction and applied it to my movement. Today, I am still very receptive and seek out advice whenever possible. This is an important skill because writers need to consider every perspective and critique when rewriting and editing. I value criticism because each correction improves my artistry.
I am extremely organized and will bring my efficiency to my future career as a writer, never missing a deadline or forgetting a task. Through my passion for dance, I learned the value of expression, which I carry over to my writing. My personal experiences influence my choreography, my movement, my poetry and fictional pieces immensely. I am personable, and always interacting with others. My goal for both my writing and dancing is to touch others and create an enjoyable experience for the audience.
